The Maryland Alliance for Racial Equity in Education (MAREE) is a coalition of education advocacy, civil rights, and community-based organizations that are committed to eliminating racial disparities in Maryland’s education system.
Over half of Maryland’s students are Black and Latino, and yet far fewer Black and Latino students are prepared for success compared to their white peers. This is because Maryland gives Black and Latino students the least of the resources and opportunities that matter most. We believe that these gaps are unsustainable for Maryland’s future.
MAREE is what’s missing in education policy – a unified voice for Black and Brown children committed to eliminating racial disparities, changing the narrative, building power, and holding the system accountable to protect the lives and livelihood of our greatest asset…our children. MAREE’s partner organizations are working together towards the liberation of our community by monitoring and evaluating state education policies, practices, funding, and implementation of laws that impact the lives of Black and Brown students.
